Easter is over. Or is it? We can take some guidance from the song from our childhood which says, “If April showers bring May flowers*…” (see the back page for the rest, if you don’t know it). Maybe, just like the sprouting spring growth, Easter is just the beginning of the splendor our lives have in store for us this year.
So what is in store for you this Spring? What has been on your mind that pulls at you? What has God put into your heart that won’t let go? It’s sometimes quite remarkable what happens to us when we get still, listen to our longings and yearnings, and decide that we can make the impossible just a little more real in our lives.
Maybe it’s taking a class. The cool thing about living in these times is the availability of distance learning, so even if you can’t figure out how to attend in person, you can attend on-line and meet new people in a “virtual classroom”. Maybe it’s venturing out to see what’s new at the Senior Center, where there’s always new people and happenings. Or commit to reading something new to awaken your soul and spirit. (Did you know we have a summer reading list and book club here at TCC? Call me and we’ll let you in on it.)
The point of spring is it’s time to grow again after a long winter of dormancy and storing up our energy. Let’s put that energy to use. There are many people-to-people connections that we can do right here, right now in Townsend. Folks who have given their time and energy to us over the years, and are now unable to venture out, but are still part of our community. We have a wonderful Stephen Ministry whose mission is simply being with others. Not trying to solve problems or fix people. Just being, listening to stories, and letting folks know we have not forgotten.
So wherever you put your energy – toward something for your mind, heart, or spirit – go be with others and release some of yourself into the world. Don’t know what to do? Come on down to TCC on Sunday and feel the vibe, and let’s talk. Because here in this community, you are valued, wanted, and loved by God and all of us. That’s the energy God releases into Townsend each and every day.
God bless you all this May, and hope to see you soon!
Pastor Mark
